A1 and SMATRICS Launch Joint Solution for EV Charging Infrastructure, Battery Storage, Energy Management, and Operations
- Target audience: companies with growing EV fleets, logistics sites, industrial enterprises, and charge point operators in Austria.
- Battery storage enables higher charging capacities even where existing grid connections reach their limits.
- An initial real-world example demonstrates how charging capacities of 200 kW and more can be achieved despite a limited grid connection.
“Many companies want to electrify their fleets, but quickly hit their limits when it comes to grid connection. This is precisely where we and SMATRICS step in: We combine charging infrastructure, battery storage, energy management, and operation into a single solution that allows e-mobility projects to be implemented faster and with greater predictability,” says Richard Palmetzhofer, Director Business Area, A1 Austria.
Example: Higher charging capacity despite a limited grid connection A current project in the logistics sector shows what this collaboration can look like in practice: Transporte Sonnleitner is planning high-performance charging infrastructure for its own fleet. At the site, for example, a grid connection of around 100 kW is available, but the planned fast-charging infrastructure requires charging capacities of 200 kW and more. SMATRICS provides the charging infrastructure, while A1 supplements battery storage and energy management. This creates an overall solution that enables higher charging capacities, reduces peak loads, and provides the customer with a single point of contact.
Battery storage as the foundation for high-performance charging A1 brings its expertise in battery storage, energy management, and operations to the cooperation. A1 Energy Solutions helps companies reduce peak loads, make better use of existing grid connections, use electricity from battery storage for charging processes, and operate storage systems economically. A1 serves as the central point of contact for battery storage projects and coordinates solutions from planning and implementation to operation. For companies, this specifically means: Peak loads can be reduced, existing grid connections can be better utilized, and higher charging capacities can be enabled. This is particularly relevant for logistics centers, industrial companies, charging parks, and businesses with a growing EV fleet.
“Battery storage is increasingly becoming the decisive building block for high-performance charging. It helps reduce peak loads, make better use of existing grid connections, and enable high charging capacities even where grid expansion would be difficult or expensive,” says Markus Rieder, Business Development Manager at A1 Energy Solutions.
SMATRICS contributes charging infrastructure, operation, and billing SMATRICS is one of the leading providers of e-mobility solutions in Austria. In the cooperation, SMATRICS contributes the planning, installation, and operation of charging infrastructure – including billing, customer service, and the option to make charging points semi-publicly available at a later stage. "For logistics providers and freight forwarders, a charging infrastructure that can be reliably integrated into their operational processes is crucial. In our collaboration with A1, we bring our expertise as an e-mobility service provider – from charging billing processes to the further development of depots into economic energy hubs. This makes us a strong partner for companies that want to shape their e-mobility efficiently and in a future-oriented manner,“ says Dipl.-Wirt. Ing. Hauke Hinrichs, Managing Director of SMATRICS. Looking ahead, the model opens up additional opportunities: from depot charging to semi-public use to operation and billing by SMATRICS. This allows companies to gradually expand their charging infrastructure while diversifying its economic use.
Integrated turnkey solution instead of separate individual projects The special added value of the cooperation lies in the coordinated implementation of integrated projects. Charging infrastructure and storage are no longer viewed as separate projects with different points of contact, but are planned as an integrated solution. This reduces complexity, creates clear service interfaces, and increases implementation quality for corporate customers. Even during ongoing operations, customers benefit from clearly defined responsibilities: Storage and energy management topics are routed to A1, while charging infrastructure topics go to SMATRICS. This creates a service model that bundles the respective core competencies of the partners and supports companies in the long-term use of their infrastructure.
